WHY A SENIOR WOULD BENEFIT FROM BELONGING TO OUR SHEPHERD'S CENTER

Our mission statement says "SCND is committed to empowering persons over 55 to experience social, health and intellectual growth and to remain functional in their community."

In actuality, we have a number of programs for the older adult. Our primary program is called "Adventures in Learning." It is the time when members enjoy many learning experiences and have a chance to meet each other as they form new friendships.

Many seniors join so that they will be able to participate in Artreach. Artreach gives members the opportunity to hear symphonies, see plays, watch dancers and a variety of programs in the Dallas Metroplex. Can you believe that you frequently receive delightful program tickets for just the low semester fee of $35?

Another exciting program is Shepherd's WATCH. This program is to help our members keep informed of what is happening with other members. If a member is sick or in the hospital, the members of Shepherd's Center will call their list to make sure everyone is informed.

Our SCND members happily participate in as many volunteer programs as possible. At present, we have an active group that works with the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program through Senior Source. Our members enjoy helping other non-profit organizations a couple of days a month. In addition, they have a fun time, further bond with one another and enjoy a free meal.

The future of our nation is always a top priority for our group. In the past we have done much mentoring of students. The project we are continuously most proud of is our Shepherd's Closet. Because of this program and the generosity of our members, as well as Albertsons, we clothe and tutor needy students at a local elementary school.

For those members who have no one to check on them, we have a BUDDY SYSTEM. The members who so desire, pair up and call each other briefly on a daily basis to make sure each is okay. When we live alone, anything can happen and its good to have someone who cares.

Even though many of us have family members who live nearby, we find that the friendships we form at our Shepherd's Center are special. Seniors understand other seniors. We have similar life styles and interests. We speak the same language. We help each other through the hard times, and we celebrate the happy moments.

All in all, we're having a great time at SCND and we hope you'll join us!!
